THE GREAT ESTATE

Mr. McKiernan worked for over 50 years as a design consultant for the preeminent families and institutions of Kansas City. The variety of property that will be presented in the single-owner sale of his estate is truly reflective of his influence throughout the city. Mr. McKiernan’s collection spans many time periods, regions and styles. Highlights include Directoire, Louis XVI and Napoleon III style furniture as well as decorative objects complementing those styles.  Mr. McKiernan was able to travel extensively at a young age across Europe and the United Kingdom with his maternal German grandfather.  Following World War II, Mr. McKiernan returned to Missouri and attended the Kansas City Art Institute. He worked for a local interior design firm before opening Dolphin Interiors in 1966 with his business partner Alfred Solomon.

I recently purchased over 50 items from Mr. McKiernan's estate which are now for sale in the retail division of DT&CO Interiors and Real Estate.  Being totally blow away by this collection of European (mostly French) furnishings, I proceeded to bid and buy until the absolute end of the auction.  When the truck finally arrived from Chicago several months later, I was not disappointed!

This is by far the finest estate purchase I have found in the few years since I have reopened my design business.  It is worth the trip just to see the museum quality Paris Porcelains, the lovely small tables, and the incredible collection of chandeliers and bouilette lamps.  One bouilette is a very old, quite small French example made entirely of sterling silver with a copper shade which has the most lovely patina...exquisite.  We have just had it polished (silver only) and French wired, as it was not wired when it arrived but had been at some point in it's life.

Stop by and take a look.  You may want to lock up your credit cards before you come!  If you appreciate fine things the tempation may overtake your good sense....it did mine!

As always....xx.dt
