insomnia and real estate...

As many of you know, I am a hopeless insomniac. I can normally get by on 4 to 5 hours a night, and "talk to Jesus" for a few hours before I actually get my feet on the floor and start the day. Much of my time awake in bed is spent going over the events of the day, planning for the next, and long term goal setting. This is where real estate comes into the picture.

News sources everywhere are telling us "Now is the time to buy!"...buyers are saying...not so fast...is the "bottom" here yet? Well, I say no one has that crystal ball, everything in life is a risk, and you have to live somewhere. For myself, I would much prefer to live in a place I can call my own, paint, make changes...all the things we do as homeowners. Some prefer to be able to pick up the phone and call a landlord to come over and fix a problem. I can certainly see both sides.

At the end of the day, real estate is a long term investment...just like your 401k. It all depends on when you cash out, but over time you will see a return on your investment. The difference to me is quality of life and what you find important. I value lifestyle and location over money in reserves...and at the end of the day we all need that somewhere to go to that we call home.

These are the issues that keep me up at night...should I advise this client to buy now? How long will they be in this house? Does it make more sense to rent? Can I get them out "clean".

Your Realtor should think more about your financial welfare than their payday...this is what it is all about at DT&CO.
