dying words....
Today's title may be a bit dramatic...DT dramatic? I was just having my morning read of the an old NYSD entry...a guilty pleasure provided by the very well read and clever David Patrick Columbia...try it out.
What caught my attention were the final words of John Jacob Astor. When asked if he had any regrets, he replied with only one....that he did not buy more real estate. I found this very telling, as this man began a family dynasty from beaver pelts sold to the Chinese to buying up parts of a rocky unusable island we now know as Manhattan. Whoda thunkit...
In more current times, the famous Hollywood tycoon Bob Hope was asked how he amassed such a fortune. His advice was to always buy land just far enough out of town (cheap) and then wait for the town to catch up. Google the San Fernando Valley...
So there you have it kids. Throughout the history of this great land we call American, some of the greatest and longest lasting fortunes were created by building wealth through real estate. It always starts with just one property.
