Retro Ranch

This retro ranch has only seen two owners.  The first one built it on four lots in what has become the heart of the Budleigh neighborhood.  It was built to be a family home... now all the kids are gone...to good schools... to start great new lives of their own.  Now it is time for a new family to take the reins and once again make this house their home.

The current (and second) owners LOVE color and they LOVE this home.  The process of removing personal items and painting has been very stressful, but they have been good sports and realize this a part of life.  Looking forward instead of behind is a trait we all should aspire to achieve!

In 2002 an addition was made to the original home.  This included a huge new kitchen, walk-in pantry, laundry room, a half bath, and a new permanent staircase to the lower level.  Once you reach the lower level a new mudroom and a huge 3 car garage was built (these folks are VERY active).

Did I mention the screened porch?  Not only is it HUGE, but in the South it is mandatory if you are going to enjoy the almost one acre lot that is like being in a hardwood forest.  An arborist stopped by the house one day and informed the current owners that they had two very rare and very old Oaks on the property....who knew?

One of the delightful features of the home (at least to me) is that many of the original features were left intact during the renovation...like knotty pine walls.  Even though walls were ripped down to open the living space, the original pine walls were preserved in the old "den" of the house.  I grew up with a knotty pine kitchen in our first house and have such great memories of times long ago when this was the latest and greatest.  To have real pine walls was very fashionable!

We all know that a new family will come along and make this house into their version of home...we also hope that they will have some respect for the two owners that have come before.  A home has a soul and a heart...when it is ripped out it is just another house.

We will be holding open houses throughout the summer starting this Sunday.  Stop by and take a peek, sit on the porch, and perhaps share an iced tea with me.  At over 5000 SF heated and cooled and over 6000 SF total, there is alot to see!
